metallurgical

Here is some of the metal we found yesterday on our walk. Not sure which one, if any, I'll put in the contest though.

The textured metal sculpture by the Poinsett Plaza

Alex's favorite - steel rebar poking through a busted concrete wall.

A very cool blue pipe :)

Cool perspective on a fire alarm/sprinkler system

I love the cool sewar drains in this city. Especially once they start to rust.

A mystery shot.

Love the perspective on the fire hydrant :)

faith

This weekend has been an interesting one. Alex and I have been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and we spend several hours this weekend working on a house in Traveler's Rest. When I moved here a few months ago, we spent quite a bit of time discussing what would be the best place for us to volunteer and Habitat came out on top. It's such a powerful way to give back and to help a family. Simply by giving a few hours of your time and a little hard work, a low income family gets a home to call their own.

We've also been experiencing some disrespect lately and I've been trying to have faith. Faith that it will all resolve itself peacefully and quietly. So when we came across these praying hands painted on a doorway on our walk this afternoon, I'm hoping it's a sign to keep up the faith - that it will be resolved sooner rather than later and that friendships won't be destroyed in the process.

Since you gals loved the pier - I thought I'd share it from a different perspective :)

remember walking in the sand

Today was an interesting day. Alex and I had to get up at the butt-crack of dawn to drive to Charlotte today. I had an appointment to get my biometrics taken for my Green card and my work visa there at 9am. Since Charlotte is a good hour and a half away on a good day - we definitely had to leave early since we would be hitting rush hour the whole way there. We made it to the office without getting lost - 10 minutes early even. I even had time to put make up on before we left - if you know me - that's impressive! Mornings are not my best time of day. Especially when they begin before the sun has even thought about coming above the horizon.

We were in and out quite quickly by immigration standards - an hour later we were on our way home. Since we had the rest of the day, we decided to stop in Gaffney and check out the sales (it's one of the lovely outlet centers between here and Charlotte). Around lunch time we got hungry and headed home after picking up a couple of adorable things for my friend Andrea's baby. Once we got home, we had a quick lunch and it was nap time. Despite our plans for the rest of the day - we spent them napping. Alex loves to nap - but me - not so much. Usually. Except when I get up at the butt-crack of dawn.

So today - instead of a new, exciting adventure picture - you get a beach picture. It's a good one though. :)

she sells seashells

Here are a few more of my favorites from our day at the beach yesterday. I had such a great time and I even went swimming - much to the shock and horror of Alex and Sarah. They thought I was going to come out of the water an icicle - but it wasn't really that bad :)

Happy Easter!

First of all, I'd like to wish all my blog readers a very Happy Easter! I hope everyone has a wonderful day tomorrow with family and loved ones!

Today Alex and I went to Charleston and Folly Beach with Sarah and had an incredible time. I have a ton of great images from the past two days and I can't wait to share some more of them with you, but it's been a long day and we're off to church in the morning. So stay tuned for some more images but for now, here's a really cool shot of an incredible old church on Folly Island (is it Folly Island or just Folly Beach? - too tired to figure it out right now - will have to look into it later!)

this little light of mine...

i'm gonna let it shine......

I had a great time with my friend Sarah today :) My blog has gotten her excited and back into photography again - which really makes my day. It's incredible that I was able to inspire her to get back out and start using her camera again.

Today I'm sharing a couple of light shots i took today that really stood out to me. It's funny, it wasn't until I uploaded the pictures I chose for my blog that I realized the common *light* theme. It feels fitting somehow - this Easter weekend. I hope all my blog readers are having a great Easter weekend.

The Easter Bunny Came Early

I went for a walk this afternoon to pick up the mail and brought my new toy along. Here's one of the shots I took with her :)

Pleasure or Pain?

If you haven't discovered by now - lately Sunday has been my photo day. The one day of the week that I fairly consistently get out with my camera and shoot. Well, since I can't really find my way around Greenville very well (outside of driving Alex to work and the mall LOL) I usually drag him along with me. Now, while I enjoy his company and getting out to explore the city..... Alex doesn't exactly love it. I thought I'd share some of the looks I got this weekend during our walk.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Stars and Stripes....

and some of the other pattern like pictures from Sunday. I have no idea if any of these are actual patterns or even if they're any good. This week's challenge is killing me!! If I can't come up with something better..... one of these might just be my entry this week.

A Green Monster and the Drive

Okay, so I don't actually have a picture of The Green Monster. The stadium was locked and the season doesn't start until April, but Alex and I went for a walk yesterday afternoon and ended up in the west end out by Liberty (an amazing restaurant) and the Greenville Drive stadium. The Drive are one of the minor league teams associated with the Red Sox and the stadium actually has a mini Green Monster. As a New Englander, Alex has been a Sox fan since birth - so of course he was delighted when the Drive came to town about the same time he did.

But this post isn't really for him - though the walk was. This post is for my friend Rachael and her bf Tim. Tim is also a Sox fan - though I don't know if he's been a fan since birth like Alex. Rachael is expecting a baby boy in a few weeks and, as a talented artist, decided to paint the room as a tribute to the Sox - with a whole wall dedicated to a mural of the Green Monster. So when we were down in Green Monster territory, I had to bring out my camera and take a few shots for her. Who knows, maybe some day they'll actually make it down to see the mini monster in person?

when life hands you lemons....

make barbeque sauce?

Living in the south has definitely become an experience. Alex has become obsessed with barbeque. I'm not joking even a little bit. A lot of the "must go to" restaurants have specialized in southern bbq. Well a few weeks ago we came across this recipe for Porkchop Barbeque where you make your own bbq sauce. Well it's one of his new favorite foods and tonight he was practically begging for it - and of course enough for leftovers. One of the ingredients in the sauce is a slice of lemon. Since this week's theme is yellow, I had to grab my camera. Here's what I came up with, but I'm still not sure either of these are the one.... and I'm running out of time.

green with envy

here's one of the shots I snagged on Sunday while I was watching Alex play pick up soccer. Surprisingly enough, I didn't actually take any of the boys playing.... well if you know me maybe it isn't suprising.... sports aren't really my thing. I definitely couldn't tell you the score. I can tell you they almost lost the ball a couple of times when they kicked it into the Reedy River. I can also tell you we almost missed it cause we didn't get all of our clocks turned ahead... And Alex would like to share that his body is killing him today after chasing after a soccerball for 2 hours.

I wanna be a rockstar...

I'm so far behind in blogging about my life... sigh! I'm currently blogging about Friday. One of Alex's coworkers is in a band and they were playing at 356 in Clemson on Friday night so we went to check them out. The band was awesome and we had a great time. Here is one of my shots of them playing. It really emphasizes a weakness of my poor point and shoot. There's a lot of noise because i wanted a high iso so i could have a faster shutter speed. I did discover a new use for empty beer bottles though - they make halfway decent tripods in a pinch :)

Azure

Here are a couple of my favorite pics from my afternoon downtown with Sarah. It was such a gorgeous day that the skies and her eyes were this gorgeous blue color.

Bridge Flare

Today I had a chance to hang out with my awesome friend Sarah and we wandered around downtown enjoying a gorgeous day. Of course I brought my camera along (it goes most everywhere with me) and I do have some great shots from today but you'll have to wait until tomorrow to see them. I will share a picture of the very cool, structurally awesome (according to Alex) Liberty Bridge from Sunday. Love love love the flare!
