A Picture's Worth 1000 Lyrics

Music moves me. More specifically lyrics move me. They always have and sometimes something profound will happen in my life and lyrics to an appropriate song will just jump into my head. Like the day I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and Yesterday by the Beatles played over and over in my head or when Alex and I had to say goodbye the first time it was Lifehouse's Hanging by a Moment. I don't know if that's normal, a gift or a curse but it's me. So when I googled photo themes to pick this week's theme and came across this one, I couldn't not pick it. My friend Andrea had a strong vote for Cityscapes and Skylines but I had to go with my gut. I'm so pleased I did, because the pictures this week are incredibly powerful, insightful pieces of art. If you follow my blog and don't know what I'm referring to - check out the weekly challenge blog here.

This first picture's lyrics came to me before I even got my camera out of my bag - a powerful Memorial Day statement:
"The flag still stands for freedom, and they can't take that away" - Lee Greenwood
"Lady Picture Show" - Stone Temple Pilots
"Yeah they were all yellow" - Coldplay

"All in all, it's just another brick in the wall" - Pink Floyd
I also have to add that when I shared this week's theme with Alex, he was like OH you should do Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall so when we came across this very cool crumbling brick wall, I took him up on his suggestion :)

"I've finally decided my future lies beyond the yellow brick road" - Elton John

Lake Robinson

On Sunday, Alex and I went up to Lake Robinson for a picnic and hung out with one of his co-workers and some of their friends and had a great afternoon.

To keep with the theme of a Picture's worth 1000 Lyrics...

"There's no swimming past the drop-off..." - Tragically Hip

"Don't cry, don't raise your eye - it's only teenage wasteland..." The Who

"The bonny boat was won as we sailed into the mystic..." - Van Morrison

"Sittin on the dock of the bay... wasting time...." - Otis Redding

Reagan & Reid

Saturday we went to Reagan & Reid's wedding outside Columbia and it was a beautiful wedding. Here are a couple of shots I took at our first wedding as a married couple. And in honor of this weeks theme :

"You are the love of my life and now we're man and wife" - Michelle Featherstone

And just a week too late - their gorgeous vintage getaway car!! 1956 Buick Roadmaster

Rock the Dress

Tonight I'm going to share a few more of the photos for Sarah's Anniversary Book. After seeing my wedding dress self-portraits, she was inspired to get back into her wedding dress and have some fun. Here are some of my favorites from that adventure :)

The best part of that day was the tourists who came up to get their picture taken with my "bride" :)

Welcome Home :)

Well after a weekend full of moving, we are finally (mostly) unpacked in our new place. Since many family and friends have been asking, I decided to take pictures and blog about them for everyone to see our new place. Some of the colors are slightly off due to flash (ie our sofa/loveseat are actually chocolate brown) but it can atleast give everyone an idea of what our new place looks like :)

A book for Sarah

Well I can finally share about the project I have been working on the past couple of months. My awesome friend Sarah wanted to do something special for her second wedding anniversary and came up with the idea of doing a photo book for her husband of all the places that were important to him and to them as a couple. She enlisted my help to travel around to all of their favorite places and capture pictures of these places. She even let me get some of her. The book finally got finished and she gave it to her husband when they got back from an anniversary trip to Myrtle Beach. She tells me he was beyond excited with the finished product and I'm excited that I was able to play a small part in their history. Here are a couple of the hundreds of images I shot for them and I'll share a few more tomorrow :)

Smoke Stacks

It's been a week full of staggering highs and bottomless lows but I'm hoping once we get moved into our new apartment this weekend things will start to look up. I could recount all the craziness here but you wouldn't even believe it all if I told ya so we'll just move on to more important things.

You know it's been too long since you updated your blog when you start getting emails reminding you to ;)

This week's contest theme is books so when we went out to Mother's Day dinner with my family last night and the menus came in these cool metal printing plate booklike folders, I thanked my lucky stars I had my camera with me.
