All Hallow's Eve

Well, today is one of those days you either love or hate. I know some people who it's their favorite holiday, and others who absolutely despise it. Personally i have a love/hate relationship with it. I don't like dressing up in costumes in general... i feel awkard and "not myself" which i guess is the point of a costume - but like the title of my blog - i like to just be myself. BUT - i love candy. Thus the love/hate relationship.

Anyway, here are some of the pictures I took tonight.

and one last shot... this one isn't really halloween related - it's this basket of old, withered, rotting apples from our tree.... as gross as it sounds, i was enjoying the texture - something you will likely hear a lot from me....

Frosty Mornings

This morning we woke up to a frost... not uncommon for this time of year in Nova Scotia - or even the first time this season. However, this morning was probably the coldest we've had so far. Cold enough that I brought out a hat and mittens to wear to work. There were even rumors of a few flurries this morning, but I didn't get to see them.

As much as the cold temperatures had me wishing I was already down in South Carolina, I was inspired by the frost on our car windows this morning. I love pictures with texture, and I really like the frosty texture in this one.

TrIcK or TrEAt

Today, I only have one picture to post, but I think i did a good job on it. I love how glowy i got the light without blur (it might be a little grainy though...) Anyway, its my first pumpkin on the season, and it turned out alright. I think i need a narrower knife for the next ones though.... I'll have to go looking for one :)

I can't wait to see everyone's halloween pictures :)

Trees, Chesnuts and Garbage Cans

I drove out to Amherst today so I could get copies of all my immigration documents before my interview on Nov 6. Well of course they were closed, so I decided to go for a walk while I was out there - around the neighborhood by OfficeXperts. Here is what I found on my walk :)

Priorities

This isn't a picture post, but I promise to have one up later today. I've been thinking a lot lately about priorities and how a person's priorities will impact their actions. It started when I was considering if I would have time to take at least one picture a day for this blog project. The more I thought about it, the more I realized, YES, I would have time. I would make time. I would make it a priority to take the time every day to get out and take pictures.

It also made me think about friendship and the disappointments we face in our close friends when they don't chose to make staying in contact with us as a priority. I have two friends who are both going through that right now. They are both away from their close knit friends from university and are struggling with the reality that when you are living a significant distance from your loved ones, you BOTH have to make it a priority to stay in contact. It's not enough for you to make contact with those loved ones - the loved ones must also make it a priority to stay in touch. And no matter what you do, if they can't make it a priority to stay in touch, eventually you will move on because at some point, it's no longer worth the rejection.

I know, because I got to that point. Where despite how much I love one of my friends, it's no longer worth the inevitable rejection when I try to make an effort. Old friend, new guy, new priorities, several months since our last visit. But now, see I'm getting ready to move to another country and she isn't really at the top of my priority list anymore. In fact, I don't even think she's even on my priority list of people to see and things to do. Not because I didn't care, but because I did care and I did try and none of that seemed to matter to her. And rejection and lack of interest eventually was no longer worth it. If our worlds collide, and we have time for a visit before I leave , then great. But it will have to be up to her to make that effort.

Baby Boss

I met the most beautiful new baby tonight. I've been awaiting her arrival since early this spring and it was so great to hear she was born happy and healthy. Congratulations to the whole family!

Bright Morning Star

Bright Morning Star is a song that the men's choir my dad's in sings and it's a beautiful, warm song. The light behind our house this morning felt like that song. While I was sitting looking out the dining room window, I just had to get out to shoot in that light by our apple tree.

Beautiful Fall Day

To start off this photo a day blog, I'm adding a couple of pictures I took a few days ago in Kentville with my friend Amy. We'd been planning our pumpkin people/corn maze adventure for over a month. I'd love to say it was the start of a tradition that we'll be able to continue every year, but where I'm moving to South Carolina in a few months, that's probably unlikely...

Anyway here are a couple of pictures I took while we were there.
